SCP-106 · The Old Man

Mythological Narrative
SCP-106 resembles an elderly human in advanced decay, continually exuding a black substance that corrodes surrounding material. Walls, floors, and sealed doors cannot form a reliable barrier. The entity sinks into solid matter and emerges from another surface as if the entire facility were only a thin skin. Captured people may be drawn into a pocket dimension under its control, where space, time, and pain can be rearranged and escape routes change according to the hunter’s interest.
Containment uses layered isolation, a suspended chamber, and procedures involving expendable bait; the file’s institutional coldness nearly matches the object. SCP-106 displays patience and a taste for play. It does not need to kill quickly, preferring to extend pursuit, create hope, and close the exit afterward. Some tale continuities connect it to war, aging, or a particular human identity, but the main article grants no single origin. That absence matters. The Old Man does not require a tragic biography; it feels like decay inside building material has acquired the will to hunt. Once the first black stain appears, the idea of safe space has already dissolved.
