Step 1
The Serpent's Bite
You are Orpheus, son of the Muse Calliope, blessed by Apollo himself with the gift of music. Your lyre can make stones weep and rivers cease their flowing. But today, no music can ease your agony.
Eurydice is dead.
Your bride, your heart, bitten by a serpent on your very wedding day. She died in your arms as you sang desperately to save her, but even your divine music could not hold back death.
Now you stand at the entrance to the Underworld, the cave at Taenarum where mortals fear to tread. The path before you leads down into eternal darkness.
No mortal has ever entered the realm of Hades and returned. But you are not fully mortal, and your love is not mortal either.
Your mother's voice echoes in your memory: "The dead do not return, my son. That is the one law even the gods cannot break."
But what if they could?
